Why I Love and Trust Jesus

I can’t remember when I didn’t believe in God.  I was the middle of three children born to loving Christian parents who served the Lord as missionaries in central Africa through my childhood.  Our parents taught us of Jesus’ love and care from infancy and worked to install in us a love and trust in God as well.  They demonstrated that love through their actions and lives of loving service to others. 

As a family, we experienced God’s loving care and answered prayers many times and learned to trust Him more deeply through the difficult times.  I could easily believe my Father in Heaven loved me because I daily experienced my earthly father’s love and care.  So, I learned to love and trust God and gave my heart to Him at a very early age. 

We returned to the United States when I was 12 and went through the 1960s and 70s with all their unrest and upheaval.  My relationship with my family and my Lord gave me the anchor I needed to avoid the rebellion, bad choices and craziness that many of my generation (and even many of my friends) went through during those years.  Through my teens the Lord became more and more precious to me as I witnessed His care and leading in my life.

After my sophomore year of college, the Lord led me to spend a year teaching English and Bible inSouth Korea before completing my education.  During that year so far from home and family, my relationship with the Lord grew stronger and deeper than ever before.  I found comfort in His promise to never leave me and to guide me always.  I learned the joy of serving Jesus and sharing the good news of His love and soon coming with others.  I learned to trust Him to provide for my needs. 

Life has brought sorrows, hardships, and trials as well as much joy and happiness.  Knowing that I can give my burdens to Jesus (He said, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28) has made the rough times easier.  And being able to share my happiness and joy with Him makes the good times sweeter than ever.  The Lord doesn’t prevent His children from having troubles and trials, but He does promise to help us get through and grow through those experiences, and I have found that promise to be true in my life.  I’ve found peace and joy in living a life of faith and trust in the Lord.  Though the world around us seems out of control, I know Jesus’ love for us is greater than all the problems and I eagerly look forward to His soon return.
